Context
Administration of streaming platforms and digital revenue: managing artist profiles, YouTube channel and Content ID operations, and reading platform reports so that an artist's digital audience becomes a clear, growing income.
The Challenge
Streaming income in Africa is real but fragmented. One artist may earn from Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, YouTube Music, Boomplay, Audiomack and Deezer, through one or more distributors, plus publishing and neighbouring rights that are often never registered. Statements arrive in different formats and currencies, months apart.
Without someone reading those reports, artists cannot tell which songs, platforms or countries actually pay, and decisions about the next release, video or market are made on instinct.
My Role
- Streaming profile administration
- YouTube channel and Content ID management
- Monthly revenue and audience reporting
- Royalty and rights registration guidance
- Platform performance analysis
Strategy and Actions
I treat streaming platforms as a business operation, not a set of accounts.
Platform administration. Artist profiles, bios, photos, playlists, Canvas, links and access permissions are maintained on every service, with the artist team holding the correct roles.
YouTube channel operations. Official Artist Channel status, uploads, titles, descriptions, end screens, playlists and Content ID are managed so that views from every version of a song are collected.
Monthly reporting. Distributor and platform statements are consolidated into one monthly view by song, platform and country, alongside audience data from Spotify for Artists and YouTube Studio.
Revenue coverage. Songs are registered for publishing and neighbouring rights, and brand and sync opportunities are tracked as separate revenue lines.
Decisions from data. Reports feed directly into the release plan: which markets to target, which songs to support with video, and where to invest promotion.
Results
Artists I work with now see their digital business clearly. For Fik Fameica, whose YouTube channel carries more than 338,000 subscribers and 60.7 million views, streaming and channel data guide release and video decisions rather than guesswork. For Mozelo Kidz, verified profiles and consistent reporting created the base for a push into the global drill market.
Every revenue line is identified, every platform is administered by the right people, and conversations with labels, distributors and brands start from accurate numbers.
Lessons Learned
Revenue that is not reported is revenue that cannot be grown. Most artists are already owed more than they collect; the first gains come from registration, clean data and regular reporting, long before any new release.
